FROM THE ARCHIVE

Connected systems should preserve meaningful choice.

A partnership is stronger when its interfaces and dependencies are understood.

A business rarely begins a technology initiative with an empty environment. It already has records, processes, and systems that people depend on. I want modernization to respect that reality while making the important connections easier to understand and maintain.

Design the boundary carefully

Agree which system is responsible for each record and what another service may read or change. Define how errors, repeated requests, and conflicting updates will be handled. These questions can appear technical, but their consequences are operational: they determine whether people can rely on the result of a connected workflow.

Document the dependency

A useful interface has an owner, an expected behavior, and a way to communicate changes. The business should understand what happens if a connected service changes its terms or becomes unavailable. The objective is a relationship that can be managed, rather than an integration that only its original developer understands.

NIST launched its AI Agent Standards Initiative in February 2026 with interoperability and security among its priorities. That public discussion reinforces the value of understanding the boundaries between an agent and the systems it uses.

Include future options in the present design

I would ask whether information can be retrieved in a usable form and whether the workflow can adapt to a different component if needed. This does not require avoiding every dependency. It requires choosing dependencies deliberately. Genellipse’s partnership approach should help organizations understand their options and build capabilities that remain useful as their business and technology environment evolve.

How Genellipse can help

Genellipse can help assess interfaces, record ownership, and integration dependencies within a modernization programme. Our data and digital engineering services can support a staged design with documented responsibilities and acceptance checks. The objective is a connection the organization can understand and maintain, with future changes considered during the initial architecture discussion.
