FROM THE ARCHIVE
AI efficiency deserves a place in the value discussion.
Cost, energy, and usefulness should be considered together.

The International Energy Agency’s Energy and AI report connects AI deployment with electricity demand and opportunities in the energy system. My business takeaway is straightforward: an AI workload should have a purpose strong enough to justify the resources needed to operate it.
Choose the capability the task needs
A routine classification or search task may have different requirements from a complex analytical exercise. I would ask a team to compare suitable approaches against the agreed quality target, rather than automatically choosing the largest available model. The comparison should include the complete workflow and the work needed to check its results.
Reduce avoidable repetition
Repeated requests, unnecessary processing, and poorly managed source material can create cost without improving the outcome. Examine whether the workflow is doing useful work at each step. Where reuse is appropriate, it should respect freshness, permissions, and the purpose of the information. Efficiency decisions still need to fit the business context.
Be careful with environmental claims
I do not want a simple cost saving to be presented as a verified environmental benefit without the relevant evidence. Energy use depends on the workload and the operating arrangement, and broad comparisons can be misleading. Start with measures the organization can understand and substantiate. A responsible partnership asks how to deliver the required result with a sensible use of resources, then makes the basis of that assessment clear.
How Genellipse can help
Genellipse can help compare AI approaches against a defined workload, quality target, and operating cost. Our engineering teams can examine avoidable processing and the design of the supporting data flow. Any environmental assessment should use suitable evidence for the deployment; efficiency recommendations can begin with measurable workload and resource decisions.
