FROM THE ARCHIVE
Convenience should not erase our information boundaries.
Everyday AI use deserves a clear habit for handling sensitive material.

A useful assistant can make it tempting to paste in whatever information is close at hand. In professional life, that may include details about a colleague, a client, or a confidential decision. I want convenience to sit alongside a deliberate understanding of what we are sharing.
Ask what the task really requires
A request to improve the structure of a letter may not require the names, account details, or full history behind it. Reduce the input to what is necessary for the purpose. In a workplace, use the approved tool and follow the organization’s rules for the information involved rather than assuming every assistant has the same arrangements.
Understand the destination
Before using a service for sensitive work, the organization should examine who can access the material, how it is retained, and which contractual or technical controls apply. These are questions for a coordinated review by the relevant business, technology, privacy, and legal teams. An individual employee should not have to resolve them alone in the middle of a task.
Make the safe path practical
If an approved workflow is difficult to use, people will experience pressure to improvise. I would invest in clear examples and accessible support: what can be entered, what should be removed, and where to ask when a case is unclear. Good habits are easier to maintain when the organization provides a workable route. Everyday AI adoption should improve the task while respecting the people whose information makes that task possible.
