Reinsurance can reshape an insurer’s risk profile, but a modeled benefit is only one part of the relationship. The operating model must connect what the treaty says, how business is reported, what counterparties accept and when amounts are settled.
UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGE
The business issue
Fragmented treaty spreadsheets can leave actuarial, accounting and operations working with different effective dates, exclusions or benefit definitions. A balanced net result may conceal an overdue recoverable, a disputed claim allocation or a concentration with one counterparty. Those are different exposures and should be reviewed separately.
PUT IT INTO PRACTICE
Turn treaty language into reviewed rules
Maintain a versioned treaty inventory with responsible owners. Map covered populations, retention, limits, exclusions, premiums, commissions and reporting obligations. Legal interpretation and actuarial treatment require qualified review; extracted text should not become an executable rule merely because an AI system found it.
Test each material rule with positive, negative and boundary examples. Preserve effective dates and the ability to reconstruct a prior report. Distinguish errors in source records from differences in treaty interpretation so the right person resolves the exception.
Reconcile the whole economic chain
Build a traceable bridge from gross policy and claims activity to ceded allocations, counterparty statements, accepted balances and cash settlement. Keep disputed, accepted-unpaid and paid amounts distinguishable. The gross-to-net analysis and settlement ledger should reconcile without being treated as the same measurement.
In the example, report the correction by treaty and period. Explain which changes affect the current estimate, which require an amended bordereau and which remain disputed. Reconcile currency conversions and settlement dates before concluding that a difference represents a loss.
Bring counterparty and operational risk into the review
A favorable modeled transfer does not eliminate concentration, collateral, timing or administrative risk. Ask how the arrangement behaves if a counterparty responds late or a material data correction spans several periods. Review available remedies with legal, finance and reinsurance specialists.
Our recommendation is a joint review pack: economic exposure, accounting basis, settlement aging and unresolved exceptions. Each item needs one owner and a clear escalation path. Success is an explained and governed position, not an artificially empty exception queue.

MEASURE WHAT MATTERS
Evidence of a stronger process
Establish a baseline and agree targets for your organization. These are proposed measures, not claimed results.
Unexplained differences
Balances that cannot yet be traced to a rule, record or timing difference.
Settlement aging
Accepted unpaid amounts by due date and counterparty.
Correction traceability
Adjustments linked to their original policy, treaty and reporting period.
How Genellipse helps
Genellipse can connect AegisNow reinsurance workflows with a governed data foundation and existing finance systems. Cortex AI can help classify exceptions and locate treaty evidence, subject to approved access and specialist confirmation. The implementation should preserve segregation between interpreting obligations, approving adjustments and releasing cash; agent orchestration is not payment authority.
