An AI agent needs authority limits, not just a useful goal

Govern the action before scaling autonomous work.

Office of CISO, GENELLIPSE

Business risk. Practical decisions. Evidence.

An agent becomes consequential when it can change a record, send information, approve work or trigger another system. The central security question is therefore about delegated authority. A useful goal does not grant unlimited permission to pursue it.

01 / UNDERSTAND

The business issue

Untrusted inputs and excessive tool access can combine into an unsafe action path. We recommend a separation between recommendation, authorization and execution. High-impact actions should remain subject to explicit, enforceable policy and accountable human decisions.

02 / ACT

Your action guide

Explore each step, then use the questions with your business and technology teams.

DECISION INTO ACTION

Define the action envelope

List the data, tools, destinations and transaction types the agent may use. Set limits by business consequence, including actions it must never perform automatically.

Enforce approval outside the model

Use scoped credentials and service-side authorization. Present reviewers with the proposed action, source evidence and uncertainty rather than a bare approve button.

Design a controlled stop

Test credential revocation, safe interruption and reconciliation of partially completed work. Record the model and workflow version associated with important decisions.

Review the evidence. Revisit the decision.
Ask the leadership team

What prevents a well-intentioned agent from completing the wrong task at scale?

03 / VERIFY

What to measure

Establish your baseline and agree targets for the service. These are suggested measures, not claimed results.

Governed actions

Consequential actions with explicit authorization and traceable execution.

Review quality

Human approvals supported by sufficient evidence and context.

Stop readiness

Agent workflows tested for safe interruption and recovery.

Use this in your next risk review

Working prompts for your team. Selections stay in this page only and are not a security assessment.

How Genellipse helps

GeneSecure

GeneSecure can help bring agent-related security and risk findings into review. Genellipse can assess API, MCP and identity boundaries around a Cortex AI workflow before expanding its authority.

Explore GeneSecure

GeneComply

GeneComply can organize the governing policy, approval design, evaluation results and exception decisions. Human accountability remains explicit; product configuration and integrations must be validated against the actual use case.

Explore GeneComply

Begin with a bounded, observable task. Increase autonomy only when evidence shows the action controls and recovery process are working.
